Era / Period: Early Edo Period (ca. Kanbun–Genroku eras / 1660s–1690s)

(Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords)

Historical Significance

Chikuzen Nobukuni School: Originating from the elite Yamashiro (Kyoto)
tradition, this legendary swordsmith line relocated to Chikuzen
(modern-day Fukuoka) to serve the prominent Kuroda clan under Kuroda Josui and Nagamasa.

Master Craftsmanship: Rated as Jō-saku (Superior / High-Rank Master)
in historical sword registries for exceptional forging quality and cutting
performance.

Lineage: Father and mentor of the renowned master Nobukuni Shigekane,
who was later selected by the 8th Tokugawa Shogun, Yoshimune, to forge at
the Edo Castle Hamagoten competition.

An authentic Edo-period collector’s piece preserved in exceptional condition,
accompanied by official NBTHK registration papers.
