"Osafune Kiyomitsu, Resident of Bizen Province"
(Bizen-no-kuni-ju Osafune Kiyomitsu) was a prominent swordsmith
representing the "Sue-Bizen" (Late Bizen) tradition. He was active during
the late Muromachi period (the *Sue-Koto* or "Late Old Sword" era)
in Osafune, Bizen Province (present-day Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture).
This piece was forged in the 5th year of Tenshō.
This corresponds to the year 1577, an era name from Japan's
Azuchi-Momoyama period (the time when Oda Nobunaga held political power).
